Welcome

"Neuroinformatics combines neuroscience and informatics research to develop and apply the advanced tools and approaches that are essential for major advances in understanding the structure and function of the brain."

OECD MegaScience Forum report, 1999.

Progress in our understanding of the brain and the application of our knowledge to combat disease will involve interdisciplinary initiatives, particularly between neuroscientists and those working in related disciplines. The UK Neuroinformatics Network brings together practitioners from the basic and clinical sciences with those from the mathematics, physics, computing and engineering based sciences with a common interest in understanding the development and functioning of the brain. The aim of the Network is to scope out the UK landscape in neuroinformatics, to identify

  • the hot problems in neuroinformatics
  • the problems to which UK neuroinformaticians can contribute
  • the way in which international collaborations can help
  • what we need to carry out our programmme

The focus of the Network is on establishing the neuroinformatics agenda for the UK community. This is being done through

  • focussed workshops
  • the commissioning of small projects to be carried out by Network members to investigate particular aspects of neuroinformatics
  • exchange of information through the Network website
