SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP 5

AI, Cognition and Behaviour

The aim of this special interest group is to support UK researchers with interests in artificial intelligence, cognition and behaviour. This is a very inclusive special interest group with the goal of bridging the gaps between complimentary fields ranging from intelligent systems to neuro modeling, and from robotics to psychology. There are many common and complimentary problems in AI, cognition and behaviour that can be tackled by a cross-disciplinary approach. Possible common interests include modeling of behavior and cognition; bio-inspired approaches to technology; multi-level representation and reasoning with information, etc.

The SIG is expecting to fund a workshop late in 2011 and to fund a small number of exchange visits between different labs. More on this later.

If you wish to be added to the SIG5: AI, Cognition and Behaviour Mailing List, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

To help us direct this SIG it would be very helpful if you could include the following information in your email:

- Where do you work?

- What is your interest in AI, Cognition and Behaviour (in the broadest possible sense)?

- In your opinion what of the following are the most important functions of the SIG?

o To meet new people with common interests.

o To organise multi-disciplinary meetings in order to set up collaborations and to discuss funding proposals

o To lobby within the INCF (nationally, internationally) for more attention for AI cognition and behaviour

o To lobby with the funding bodies for research in these areas

o To help flag important developments in the field, for example become aware of developments in neural engineering, simulations tools, connectome tools, etc.

o To reach out to new members. It is likely that many interesting people do not know about the SIGs at the moment
