The study of nervous system development is one area of research where there is great promise that computational and mathematical methods of modelling can be applied successfully. The aim of this two-day meeting is to bring together researchers who model neural development or who are interested in the subject. Additionally, it is hoped to involve experimental neuroscientists interested in computational approaches to neural development.
There will also be a didactic element: experimental neuroscientists who work in developmental neurobiology will give an overview of their field and its relevance for modelling studies. Currently the following experimental neuroscientists have agreed to talk
- Professor David Price (Edinburgh)
- Dr Robert Hindges (Kings College London)
- Dr Zoltan Molnar (Oxford).
The meeting will be held in the Informatics Forum at the University of Edinburgh in central Edinburgh (http://www.ed.ac.uk/maps/buildings/informatics-forum). The workshop will start with workshop registration from 2pm on Wednesday 26th November and it will finish at 5pm on Thursday 27th November.
The schedule is planned around a small number of invited talks together with oral and poster presentations by participants.
The presentations can be on either modelling any aspect of nervous system development or experimental work on the development of the nervous system where there is a clear link to modelling work.
The number of slots available for oral presentations is limited and the organisers will select suitable presentations from the submitted abstracts after the close of registration.
Attendance at the workshop is free including coffee/tea, a conference dinner on Wednesday 26th November and lunch on Thursday 27th November. There will be some financial support for registered PhD students, to contribute towards travel and accommodation costs.
There is a variety of accommodation available in the City Centre within walking distance of the Informatics Forum in various price ranges. Accommodation does get booked up nearer the date and so early booking is advised.
For hotel accommodation (upwards of £60 per night) and bed and breakfast accommodation (from £40 per night) see http://www.visitscotland.com/shop/accommodation/book-edinburgh/
Two sets of accommodation which are very close to the Informatics Forum are:
- The Kenneth Mackenzie Suite with rooms at £49 per night http://www.edinburghfirst.com/accommodation/accommodation-index.asp
- The Ibis Hotel with accommodation around £70 per night http://www.ibishotel.com
If you would like to attend, please fill in the registration form at http://www.neuroinformatics.org.uk/node/40. If you wish to make an oral or a poster presentation, please indicate this on the registration form and include an abstract of your presentation.
Registration closes on Monday 13th October 2008.
Please note that the number of places is limited (to around 60). The organisers may have to select participants on the basis of the information provided in the application form.
If you have any queries about the meeting, please contact David Sterratt (david.c.sterratt@ed.ac.uk).
