Aims & Objectives

Aim

The Network aims to establish a forum for the UK neuroinformatics community, and to define and action a set of activities that will identify issues critical to the field. The forum will provide a channel for discussion, a means for developing neuroinformatics, and a voice to represent the community in discussions with other scientific areas, commercial organisations, funding/governmental and international agencies.

Objectives
  1. To provide the first open forum in the UK devoted to neuroinformatics research, bringing together neuroscientists with scientists from mathematics, physics, computing and engineering based disciplines who share a common interest in understanding the development and functioning of the brain.
  2. To enable national prioritisation of research topics within the field and to plan strategic initiatives for growth.
  3. To provide a channel for communication from the neuroinformatics community to national science initiatives. Examples of ongoing initiatives are eScience and Foresight: Cognitive Systems.
  4. To raise the profile of neuroinformatics as a scientific discipline.
  5. To promote commercial aspects of neuroinformatics with multinational and SME companies.
  6. To provide a voice for informed discussions with Research Councils and national funding agencies.
  7. To contribute a UK perspective to the growing neuroinformatics scientific communities worldwide.
