Overview:
The UK Neuroinformatics Network is holding a two-day workshop at the Apex International Hotel in Edinburgh on Thursday 6th to Friday 7th September 2007.
The workshop will commence with a short review of recent activities carried out within the Network. We will then go on to the main topic of the workshop, which is to discuss UK membership of the International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility (INCF).
The INCF is an international organisation devoted to developing neuroinformatics on a global scale. Funding is provided through the subscriptions paid by the individual member countries. On 1st August 2007, the UK will become the 13th country to join.
INCF activities are determined by its members. Each member's input to the INCF is coordinated by its local organisation, called a 'National Node'. Our aim in the workshop is to discuss and decide how the UK Node could best be structured. For example, how can the various constituents of UK neuroinformatics be represented in the Node? How should UK neuroinformaticians communicate with each other, with the Node and with the INCF?
We aim to do this through a combination of talks by INCF officials and representatives from other member countries, together with a series of discussions amongst UK delegates. The workshop will be held in central Edinburgh. Accommodation will be provided at the Ibis Hotel, which is a short walk from the workshop venue, and reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. Anyone interested in neuroinformatics is welcome to attend.
In order to maximise the discussion time during the workshop, we will be asking for input prior to the event. Here is a short discussion document around which feedback should be based. On the basis of this feedback, we will then produce a draft proposal for how the UK Node might be structured. This will be discussed and amended at the workshop.
If you would like to attend, please contact Fiona Williams (fionaj@inf.ed.ac.uk, 0131-650 4405) as soon as possible.
Speakers:
- Jan Bjaalie, INCF Executive Director
- Rodney Douglas (Zurich Institute of Neuroinformics), INCF Switzerland representative
- Jaap van Pelt (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), INCF Netherlands representative
